Fun at the Fair

Today, we went to the Wilson County Fair. We spent the entire day looking at exhibits, watching flyball, petting livestock, riding rides, watching different types of shows (clogging, a hypnotist, lumberjack competitions, glassblowing, etc) and resisting the urge to get some sort of deep-fried something-or-other.  The options on the deep-fried list of fair foods is growing every year.  You can have your choice of an Oreo, Twinkie, Snickers bar or even a pickle served up deep fried.  *shiver*  The weather was in the low 90's, but there was a nice breeze that made it possible to spend so many hours wandering around on the asphalt roads within the fairgrounds.

Our first stop was at the car show.

My girls love the old VW bugs.

This one reminded me of the first car I remember driving around in with my mom.

There were even some real oldies.

What every fair should have: a donkey wearing a straw hat.

I thought I would enter my first wood carving project that I made this past fall.  It is the Hebrew word "shema", or "hear", from Deuteronomy 6 :4.  To my surprise, I actually won a ribbon!

Moo got a third place ribbon for her painted t-shirt.

Belle earned a third place ribbon for her crocheted purse.

Another third place ribbon for Moo's duct tape fan.

And a second place ribbon for her towel doll.

Third place for Belle's wooden boat.

And second place for Moo's statue.  Not pictured is a beaded bracelet that she earned a second place ribbon for as well.  Both the girls were very pleased with themselves and excited for each other.

Their first ride of the day: the swings.

They love the swings.  I used to love them too, until that switch in my brain was flipped after I had babies.  You know the one...the one that suddenly makes you get a bit nauseated walking too fast down a grocery aisle, let alone twirling in the air on a swing or riding any sort of roller coaster or fair ride AT ALL?

Happy.

Clogging!  They were having so much fun, it was fun to watch.

The last shot of the day: the owl at the wild animal rescue tent.  Since I was using my cell phone camera, the picture doesn't do this beautiful bird justice at all.  She was gorgeous.

Today was a good day.
