Country Music Hall of Fame, 2011

Big Nashville outing with the folks on the Friday after Thanksgiving. By the way, if you are in the south, that is pronounced THANKSgivin', with the emphasis on the first syllable. Cute. But I digress. First, we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, then to view the Parthenon, the Nashville Farmers Market and then Bass Pro Shop at the Opry Mills Mall.

These were guitars that belonged to someone important in country music...can't remember who.  Part of the culture shock of moving to Nashville is that I am just as disconnected to country music as I am to what is currently on the "Top 40" charts. I used to feel like I had peers that were just as disconnected to "today's music" (do I sound old or what?!).  But in Nashville, EVERYONE--young and old--knows all about the country music scene.  At least that's what it seems like...

Hey--I know both of those girls.  Belle and Dolly.
Ha!  Minnie Pearl's clothes and signature hat!

Both the girls had funny comments about this Wurlitzer.  "Is it a radio?  Does it play discs?"

One of many outfits on display in the museum--just as fancy as the women's.  I mean, I'd wear that red, fringy jacket, wouldn't you?

At first, I thought this was out of place...but then I realized that it was the machine that sewed many of the costumes on display in the older section of the museum.

Elvis' car.

I'm fixin' to get me one of these.

My Mom's family nickname is Sugar Foot.
A number of Elvis' gold and platinum albums:

There are oodles of awards all over the museum.

And then, there was this work of art.  These squirrels were shot by Hank Williams and set up as a band at his request by a taxidermist.  I included the sign that says that very thing...in case you thought I was kidding.

Hey!  A dress that belonged to Carrie Underwood (affectionately called Carrie Underwear in our family)!  Someone that I actually know!  Yee haw!

We really enjoyed our visit with my parents.  They said they enjoyed the museum, but after that squirrel art, I fear they won't visit again for a long time!

Duet with Miss Sara

I was finally able to get a video of what takes place during Moo's violin lesson each week.
This is a duet of Bouree, played by Moo and Miss Sara Dudley:

Online Recital

Moo isn't going to be able to participate in a winter recital this year (it coincides too closely to her choir performances to make it work).  For those friends and family who would have wanted to come sit through an hour and a half of strangers playing violins, violas and cellos just to see Moo perform for 2 minutes...this video is the kinder, gentler way to experience her recital from the comfort of your office chair:

New Friends

This is Nathaniel, and he and his mother Eleanor are some new friends from our fellowship.

They live on 95 beautiful acres full of hills and streams and critters to delight certain wanna-be farm girls like Moo & Belle.

The girls and Nathaniel chased sheep, messed with some guinea hens, met the chickens and learned all their names, ran in pastures, stepped in poop, rode bikes, splashed in a ford, engraved initials on a log, explored a fort, tried climbing a tree (unsuccessfully) and hiked and played outdoors for the better portion of the day. These pictures of their livestock and land are some that I snagged from Eleanor's website.

We are thankful for new friendships, and the adventures that come with them!
