Country Music Hall of Fame, 2011

Big Nashville outing with the folks on the Friday after Thanksgiving. By the way, if you are in the south, that is pronounced THANKSgivin', with the emphasis on the first syllable. Cute. But I digress. First, we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, then to view the Parthenon, the Nashville Farmers Market and then Bass Pro Shop at the Opry Mills Mall.

These were guitars that belonged to someone important in country music...can't remember who.  Part of the culture shock of moving to Nashville is that I am just as disconnected to country music as I am to what is currently on the "Top 40" charts. I used to feel like I had peers that were just as disconnected to "today's music" (do I sound old or what?!).  But in Nashville, EVERYONE--young and old--knows all about the country music scene.  At least that's what it seems like...

Hey--I know both of those girls.  Belle and Dolly.
Ha!  Minnie Pearl's clothes and signature hat!

Both the girls had funny comments about this Wurlitzer.  "Is it a radio?  Does it play discs?"

One of many outfits on display in the museum--just as fancy as the women's.  I mean, I'd wear that red, fringy jacket, wouldn't you?

At first, I thought this was out of place...but then I realized that it was the machine that sewed many of the costumes on display in the older section of the museum.

Elvis' car.

I'm fixin' to get me one of these.

My Mom's family nickname is Sugar Foot.
A number of Elvis' gold and platinum albums:

There are oodles of awards all over the museum.

And then, there was this work of art.  These squirrels were shot by Hank Williams and set up as a band at his request by a taxidermist.  I included the sign that says that very thing...in case you thought I was kidding.

Hey!  A dress that belonged to Carrie Underwood (affectionately called Carrie Underwear in our family)!  Someone that I actually know!  Yee haw!

We really enjoyed our visit with my parents.  They said they enjoyed the museum, but after that squirrel art, I fear they won't visit again for a long time!

Thank you so much for not one, but two pictures of Dolly. I could have done without the squirrel band. Ick.
