My grandmother has been telling us that she was not going to live another year since she turned 65. I remember when she turned 65, and I was sitting in her gazebo at Fish Lake Beach while she casually mentioned that she probably wouldn't be around next summer. I was 10, and I remember being confused and unhappy about the prospect of losing my Grama. Especially since she was (and is) healthy as a horse, and just about as feisty and busy as a woman more than half her age.
She is now 95 years old. She lives in Texas for most of the year in a retirement community, and regularly serves spaghetti and other Italian dishes to around 150 people every weekend in the Cactus Club. My folks heard from her on New Years Day, and she was still giggling about her New Years Eve exploits...I don't remember a lot of the details, but I do remember that she said that Elvis sang to her and tried to get her to dance with him; and that she got home at about 4 o'clock in the morning. Did I mention that her retirement community is a really happenin' place? Complete with karaoke, gambling, dancing, lots of food and disc jockeys who dress up like Elvis and serenade the elderly women of Victoria Palms. She loves it.

I personally can't wait to live in a retirement community! Sounds like a blast to me! :) (As long as I am healthy as a horse and not one of those "old" people ...)
